USTM Signs MoU With JNU, New Delhi

A MoU has been signed between
Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and the University of Science and Technology,
Meghalaya (USTM) today in New Delhi. The MoU was signed by Prof. S. K. Sopory,
Vice-Chancellor, JNU, New Delhi on behalf of Jawaharlal Nehru University and
Shri Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM, on behalf of University of Science and
Technology, Meghalaya in presence of high officials of JNU & Prof Akhtar
Siddique, former Chairman, NCTE in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, JNU on the
25th of January, 2016 at 2pm. The MoU between Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU),
an institution of national importance and India’s No. 1 University and the
University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), an emerging technology
university in North East provides a road map in relation to future cooperation
between the two Universities. The collaboration will pave ways for USTM’s
Vision-2020 in pertaining to be a university of national repute.
Shri Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM in his statement said, “It is a landmark
achievement & opportunity for USTM community to excel”.
The MOU provides that Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will guide USTM in
academic promotion especially in the field of North East Studies by mentoring
and training the faculties, special classes by JNU Faculties, guidance in
University governance, syllabus & examination up-gradation, and jointly
organising seminars, workshops, symposia on specific themes pertaining to the
region in particular and national and international issues in general. In the
sphere of research, JNU will guide the USTM in managing the research programmes
by jointly guiding the scholars of USTM for quality research in their respective
field. JNU will also guide the faculties in preparing DPR for projects and
collaborative activities by taking lead.
The cooperation will open the doors for the faculties of USTM to go for higher
education and research at Jawaharlal Nehru University. Now, the students of USTM
can attend classes for specific period at JNU and do their internship, summer
training under the guidanceof JNU faculty/departments. Students and research
scholars can access the library and lab facilities at JNU time to time. Research
scholars of JNU can visit USTM to guide students how to get admission at JNU and
guide them for higher education in their field of study. Classes can also be
taken by JNU faculty through video conferencing and faculties can be guided
through online technology.
This MOU is great news and achievement for a university like USTM to have
association with India’s topmost university like Jawaharlal Nehru University and
a matter of pride for USTM family.
