University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM)
has organized the valedictory session of the month long orientation program for
newly admitted students on October 17, 2016. The Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland
and former Governor of Assam, Sri PB Acharya was present as the Chief Guest of
the event. In the month long orientation for more than 1500 freshers students
which was on going in different departments witnessed the congregation of galaxy
of eminent academicians, researchers, entrepreneurs and professionals from
different institutes of repute which culminated in the valedictory program.
In his address the Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland Shri P B Acharya said that India
is a country of unity in diversity and our youth should not lost pride in their
own heritage, culture and mother tongue in terms of following the western
countries. Shri Acarya urged the students to remember their identity and put
effort to strengthen the society. Shri Acharya stressed on the importance of
education which should be the key of building a developed society, but it is
observed that in India most of the universities are failing to solve the real
problems of the society, he added. By citing the example of top class
universities of the world which are run by the industrialists and not by the
government, the Hon’ble Governor suggested the youth to be educated
entrepreneurs in order to return the education to the society. Shri Acharya
praised the initiative of Shri Mahbubul Hoque, the Chancellor of USTM to build
such an institution of repute with a dream to make it a world class university,
the example of his global thinking and in his act, opened the university which
is serving the student of this region the quality education in their door step.
He also urged each and every students to adopt the basic values of life to be a
content person in the society rather than just earning money. Shri Acharya
further alleged that there are still some tribal communitiesin the country who
have not got their proper recognition.
Sh. Mahbubul Hoque, Chancellor, USTM in his inspiring speech asked the students
and faculty members to set the goal and work with dedication and sincerity so
that this university can become the centre for excellence. He emphasized the
need to inspire the teachers who are relentlessly putting their effort and to do
so the university has chosen twenty best teachers on the basis of Departmental
Assessment & Evaluation (DAPE) and Faculty Assessment & Evaluation (FAPE) from
the last academic session. The Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland presented the
certificate of appreciation and cash reward of ten thousand each to the
performing teachers along with three best departments of the university. Dr SC
Das, Dean Scholl of Biological Sciences was given the recognition of the first
USTM Mission Award.
Dr. P G Rao, VC, USTM in his welcome address, briefed the growth of USTM from
inception and said that the university is putting continuous effort to bring the
galaxy of eminent personalities at the varsity to encourage the students. Deans,
senior professors, heads of various departments and students were present during
the valedictory program. On the same occasion, the Hon’ble Governor has also
launched the Centre for Foreign Languages at USTM established in association
with Global Academy.
