RiBhoi, November 5, 2018: The National Service Scheme’s pre Republic Day
parade camp for the Eastern Region is being held at the University of Science
and Technology Meghalaya from 4th November. The camp was formally inaugurated
here today by Dipak Kumar, Regional Director, NSS in the presence of P. R.
Khound, Director, Directorate of Sports & Youth Welfare, Assam;MahbubulHoque,
Chancellor, USTM; Dr PK Gowami, Vice Chancellor and Prof. AlakaSarma, Pro VC of
USTM.The 10 day long camp is being organized by NSS in association with USTM.
Addressing the gathering, MrP. R. Khound congratulated the students for getting
the opportunity to participate in this prestigious Camp. He thanked the
Chancellor for providing the good infrastructure of USTM to the participants and
asked the students to gear up and give their best to get selected for the
Republic Day parade in New Delhi.
A total of 200 NSS volunteers from 10 states, including West Bengal and Odisha
are participating in the Camp, out of which the best 40 NSS volunteers will be
selected to participate in the Republic Day parade of 2019 to be held in New
Delhi.Experts from different government and non-government organizations from
across the country are here to impart training on Parade, Life Skills, Yoga and
Cultural programmes to the participants.
A cultural procession took place as part of the inaugural ceremony today.
Participants from all over north-eastern states and West Bengal and Orissa
joined the procession in colorful traditional dresses. The aim was to strengthen
the unity and brotherhood of the country.Earlier, MahbubulHoque welcomed all the
volunteers and wished them a pleasant and learning stay in the University.
